yeah, snack!

After hemming and hawing
{for the past several months}
I finally gave our snack area an upgrade.

Check out the before photos here.

after...

This morning, in addition to the snack, I set out 3 tubs...
{one for washing, one for rinsing, and one for drying}

The children have always been able
to help themselves to a snack during the work period
{the numeral cards tell them how much to take}

and now, they're able to wash their own dishes, too!
{How independent!}

Finally! A real purpose for the soap suds!
{This lesson was off the hook today, by the way.}

  1. The children look like they LOVE it. I used to have snack in the classroom, but I was never ever to really pull it off well. Now we have snack all together upstairs before we go to the classroom. (I run a small montessori preschool out of my home. The kitchen is upstairs and the classroom is downstairs.) We still get a chance to use our grace and courtesy skills and to prepare the snack and clear the table, but it isn't quite as independent as I would like. Love the washing station too!

  2. Looks really great. Orderly and completely accessible from start to finish! It is really making me think I should set up a washing area for our home. Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. Funny timing. My 2.5-year-old insisted on washing her breakfast plate in the kitchen sink this morning, so I was thinking of getting a few tubs for her to use on the floor. I really like the sense of order that you've created!
